Quicken 2016 App Reviews

Buyer Beware

This product is not reeady for release. The ONLY thing I need to use it for is as a checkbook and it fails at even that… the most BASIC feature it can have. I have spent HOURS with their tech support and they can’t even solve the problems this software has. I would NOT recommend this to anyone. It constantly gives errors and will not connect to my bank (WELLS FARGO - nothing earth shattering). Sorry for you if you spend your money on this! I warned you...

Poor Quality at a High Price

A little background: I purchased Quicken 2016 for Mac to consolidate and monitor my portfolio. Keeping track of other accounts (checking/savings) was considered a bonus, but not my main priority. I have previously used (actually still use) free applications like Personal Capital for this same purpose, and did so without any issues. In a nutshell, I wanted a quick, concise, user-friendly program to assist my financial goals. What I found: Immediately after downloading Quicken 2016 for Mac, I knew the purchase was a mistake… Upon set-up, I followed the user directions and linked my accounts. It was very clear that my financial information was incorrect and transactions were not being recorded properly. I thought, “Perhaps I should manually enter numerical data and all will be well”. **(Wrong)** If anything, the issues worsened. Last, I tried to remove and redownload my accounts - still no resolve. Bottom Line: Overall, I am highly disappointed in my purchase. I would be better off having my infant son (and/or my cocker-spaniel) track my finances. Regardless of errors, the account and portfolio overviews are elementary at best, giving little to no useful information. You may find free apps to be more helpful and accurate. I plan to seek reimsbursement (my hopes aren’t too high) and openly voice my displeasure with this product.

Poor Replacement for Quicken 2007 For Mac

Having used Quicken for Mac applications for many years, I was looking forward to replacing the crash prone 2007 edition. As users of 2007 know, the application has been cobbled together over almost 10 years to run on the latest Mac OS’. I was expecting this lastest Quicken addition to be a huge improvement. It’s not! While the transfer of data from the 2007 edition went smoothly, working with the new edition is cumberson to say the least. The bill pay section lacks the simplicity of 2007. Several of my first transactions failed to process. The budgets are not simple to set up. In short, I found this latest edition to be unsatisfactory. At this point I would recommend to everyone to stick with 2007. I’ve gone back to using 2007.

OMG This Is The Worst

I have been a Quicken Windows user for well over 20 years and am currently running Quicken Windows 2015 on my Mac using a VM. I bought Quicken 2016 for the Mac thinking it might allow me to ditch the VM. Big mistake! Folks, heed the poor reviews. They are a telling indicator regarding the quality of this product. It works fine for those with simple needs such as tracking savings or checking accounts. Once you move beyond these trivial requirements, the program begins to fail. For example, it failed to accurately set up and download transactions for my and my wife’s 401(k) accounts. I performed a comparison between Quicken Mac 2016 and Quicken Windows 2015, setting up the two 401(k) accounts; one with Voya and the other with Schwab. The Windows version had no trouble setting up both accounts. Securities and cash balances were accurate. All transactions for deposits and purchases were correctly reflected. Quicken Mac 2016, on the other hand, showed the proper securities balances but did not show the proper cash balances. For some reason, the program did not capture cash deposits. Only “buy” transactions were captured. Consequently each stock purchase resulted in an increasingly negative cash balance. In summary, and IMHO, this product is extremely buggy and not sufficiently sophisticated or capable to do anything other than track simple accounting transactions, such as those related to checking and savings accounts. This program still needs a lot of work before it will truly be a useful financial tracking tool.

If you are Military and have TSP …

I bought this app having heard great things about it, but because I am military it doesn’t sync with my TSP and also doesn’t populate my investments from USAA. Not happy with the product. It also would show a negative balance from my bank accounts even though on my actual bank account I have a positive balance. Mint.com is made by the same company (intuit), its FREE, and it works far better than Quicken. How is that possible???? Until they match the success and greatness of the FREE mint.com service … do not buy this program. Its lame.
