OMG This Is The Worst
I have been a Quicken Windows user for well over 20 years and am currently running Quicken Windows 2015 on my Mac using a VM. I bought Quicken 2016 for the Mac thinking it might allow me to ditch the VM. Big mistake! Folks, heed the poor reviews. They are a telling indicator regarding the quality of this product. It works fine for those with simple needs such as tracking savings or checking accounts. Once you move beyond these trivial requirements, the program begins to fail. For example, it failed to accurately set up and download transactions for my and my wife’s 401(k) accounts. I performed a comparison between Quicken Mac 2016 and Quicken Windows 2015, setting up the two 401(k) accounts; one with Voya and the other with Schwab. The Windows version had no trouble setting up both accounts. Securities and cash balances were accurate. All transactions for deposits and purchases were correctly reflected. Quicken Mac 2016, on the other hand, showed the proper securities balances but did not show the proper cash balances. For some reason, the program did not capture cash deposits. Only “buy” transactions were captured. Consequently each stock purchase resulted in an increasingly negative cash balance.
In summary, and IMHO, this product is extremely buggy and not sufficiently sophisticated or capable to do anything other than track simple accounting transactions, such as those related to checking and savings accounts. This program still needs a lot of work before it will truly be a useful financial tracking tool.
